Places of interest in St Andrews

We have been asked to recommend a circuit in St Andrews of places of cultural and historical interest, religious or otherwise, within easy reach of walkers or cyclists. What do you recommend and why?

Most of the restrictions for the prevention of the spread of Covid have now been lifted in Scotland and normal pilgrimage activity is now possible.
