Going north through flat farmland and over the estuary of the Esk and Eden with great views onto the Solway Firth this 1st section of St Ninian’s Way starts at the cathedral  and  proceeds north through the centre of Carlisle about ½ km to Bridgewater street. After crossing the River Eden the Way joins Bike Route 7 all way to Gretna.
