Dumfries to Castle Douglas

Part of Part 1 – Carlisle to Whithorn

Along former railtrack and then into hilly farmland this fifth section of St Ninian’s Way starts from the centre of Dumfries proceeds west across the Nith to to join Bike Route 7and then south along former railtrack to Carganbridge, Drumsleet and along Old Mlitary Road  to Castle Douglas. This is a long leg so you may wish to stop at Hardgate or Haugh of Urr , about 7 km short of Castle Douglas.
